It is with great pleasure that I announce the formal arrest of Sam Bank-Friendman pending his extradition to the United States, who have formally applied for it today in the Bahamas. It also effectively closes the circle in terms of the SBF case study, and speculation around the toxic role he has played in crypto. From now on in it is just due process, and no doubt jaw dropping examples of hubris and outright fraudulent thievery.
Before getting to the news, let me perform a gloating recap of my heterodox distain for SBF, while all the world breathed in his farts and called them sweet lavender.
In Part 1 being, “Crypto Lending and why you should stay the fuck away from it…” we made this prophecy:

So who are the “Wolves of Wallstreet” in this game? Well unsurprisingly one of Celcius’s main founding investors was ‘Tether’. Another ‘investor’ heavily involved in this space is FTX which is a Bahamian based crypto exchange owned by Sam Bankman-Fried…. who along with quantitative trading firms like Cumberland Trading and Alameda Research (which is also owned by Sam Bankman-Fried) would also be one of the main “Investors” borrowing these BTC.

In Part 2, Three Arrows Capital, I looked at the fall out of Three Arrow’s Capital and Celsius’s collapse where I was probably too kind in my assessment of Sam’s chances:
Consequently traders like 3AC and FTX went tits long on this trade, with crypto lending firms like Celsius and BlockFi loaning them the fuck loads of ETH to do this trade. FTX is probably gunna get out of it okay, as they have the ability to sodomise their trader’s stop losses and clear them out, [Stewie: wrong about FTX being okay, but 100% on the money about their traders’s being sodomized by SBF] while trading against them from their unregulated exchanges based in the Bahamas. Twitter is currently full of FTX traders who’ve used any form of leverage being arse raped by Sam. However the issue presents a huge problem for 3AC who doesn’t have such nefarious means of making back their collateral.

In Part 3, The Biggest Dildo in Crypto, we pondered whether Sam was really capable of saving crypto:
“As I said, this is essentially a liquidity crisis within crypto – honestly not that too far removed from what happened in 2008…. In the 2008 crash the market was ‘saved’ by the liquidity providers i.e. Reserve Banks (mainly the Fed) coming in and saving the system, and to be frank imho that is the only thing that will stop the Doom loop in crypto – liquidity providers coming in and saving the system.
Who are the liquidity providers in crypto? Alameda Research (FTX and Sam) and Cumberland Capital (a group started by a trader who had been banned and fined by the SEC in US markets), neither of which are confidence inspiring in the best of circumstances….given the redemptions occurring in Tether and their hesitation or incapability of turning the printers back on, it is highly doubtful imho that Alameda or Cumberland will be spending $1 of fiat to defend the crypto complex.
There might be some more crypto chicanery and financial engineering to hold off the collapse off for a little while, but imho it will only slow or slightly delay the inevitable. Without the Tether printers being turned back on, I see BTC below $5k before I see it going above $50k.”

U.S prosecutors are considering criminal charges against crypto exchange Binance and individual executives, including founder and CEO Changpeng Zhao, Reuters reported, citing two people.
The Department of Justice has also discussed possible plea deals with Binance’s lawyers, the report added.
Anyone who has coins sitting with these offshore, un-regulated exchanges, or their mainland affiliates is asking for trouble. If you do have crypto, self custody is probably the safest place to be right at the moment. The vast majority will still end up utterly worthless, but at least it won’t have been rehypothecated away.

I keep saying, Crypto is a hucksters game of pass the parcel. This fake money that is supposedly untraceable and unconfiscatable is the narrative that has been spun by those hucksters.
DLT is boring, boring, boring shit – it is meant to be the plumbing for micro-transactions. The sort of transactions and business models that don’t exist in the world atm because until now it wasn’t feasible to do. It was transactions of less than a dollar, of less than a cent, of less than a 1/10th of cent,of less than 1/100th of a cent of less than 1/1000th of a cent.
Boring, boring, boring mind melting boring shit – like writing log files, of on API paying a commission to another API for the use of code or minutes of processing time, of repaying a photocopier lease on a per use basis, of tolling vehicles on road networks at a micro use level.
Basically it is about financializing that last little bit of commercial opportunity and business use cases out there, that until now hasn’t been feasible because it hasn’t been possible to achieve a level of security, decentralization and scalability for such small transaction levels.

I just can’t see why something like 1c transactions (let alone 0.01c transactions) need something that is trustless and decentralised.

all these low value things might as well get aggregated until it’s $10 or more and transacted over regular network.
eg, photocopier can charge per 5,000 sheets, rather than per single sheet. Charge for 10-hour blocks of processing time, rather than seconds, etc.
I was guilty of using the crypto narrative, “decentralised” isn’t decentralised as in no center, it is distributed.
‘Decentralized’ isn’t mentioned once in the white paper ‘distributed’ is mentioned 5 times.
SOL is a good example of this concept. SOL has gone down more times than I can count, each time it goes down all the businesses are unable to transact. That Aussie solar meter company that uses SOL – everything stops. Distributed means that the processing and storage is distributed, such that if one node goes down, there are others that will continue to work and process transactions. Distributed means 100% uptime.
Trustless is also a concept that has been twisted into something it is not. The BTC network expends huge amounts of energy for ‘security’ in order to create trust. But the reality is that for the network to be reliable as a trusted network, you only really need enough trust or POW to guarantee the security of the median transaction. If the median transaction on the network is only 100th of a cent, that means you don’t actually need a lot of POW on a per transaction basis, it also means that you don’t need thousands of nodes in order to achieve a sufficient level of ‘trust’ in order to transact on the network.
Sure – but you’ve got to ‘trust’ the aggregator and you’ve got to have patients for it to build up to a transactable amount. The photocopier is just an example that is more tangible than the example of thousands of API’s working in synch, paying and depending on being paid in order to pay, for thousands of small micro transactions.
Take Murex or Calypso – two good examples of a Banking trading system software. Each has licensing agreements that cost many thousands of dollars per user. Problem is, some users just need to use it occasionally, other users use it every single day. The licenses in the current format mean that:
i) Occasional users are effectively subsidizing the services of heavy users; and
ii) Many people who would use these systems occasionally actually don’t use it at all, because of the license hurdle costs that have to be overcome before using it.
DTL has the ability to effect trustless transactions between the users and Murex or Calypso for thousands of a cent, yet generating huge amounts of fees in aggregate, all without the users the users having to rely on the product providers to prove they aren’t ripping their customers off – every transaction and use would be fully auditable and verifiable.
As I said, boring, boring, boring shit. Trust me – life doesn’t get much more boring than anything to do with audit… which is what Satoshi actually worked as prior to writing the white paper.

The media descriptions of “hails of bullets” made me think semiauto, but you can achieve almost the same rate of fire with a lever gun (which is why I have a lever gun). So, excluding semiauto, very probably lever action shotguns and rifles, in which case 30-30 or a pistol chambering like .357 or .44 Magnum.
Of course, what the media reports and reality are nearly always different, so possibly just a couple of bolt action rifles and a shotgun, in which case .223 or .308.

308’s are pretty common for deer hunting in Victoria, yes they’re very solid stoppers but don’t buy the media hysteria (who think any projectile is murder). Longer range single shot stuff. It’ll go through a foot thick tree, or through a brick wall with ease. It has enough energy to kill people at ranges out to 3000m+.
That being said, most users of bolt action rifles aren’t all that adept at cycling the action, so even working at top speed the rate of fire is about 12-15 rounds per minute. Also, most civilian hunting rifles have 5 round magazines, so a lengthy reload is required after each 5 shots, which reduces the effective rate of fire even further.
Rate of fire is as important as weight of fire when considering fire power.
Overall, the “hail of bullets” narrative isn’t credible.
Once they had the pistols off the dead officers they would have had far less powerful weapons (9mm parabellum I think in QLD) but with a far higher rate of fire. A skilled marksman can put 10 rounds into a man sized target at 25m in about 5 seconds with a gun like that. They could’ve definitely put a lot of rounds downrange in a short time with the cop guns, which would’ve been a daunting prospect for the response crew.

To me Morrison always came across as being a bit thick, so would always win votes with blokey middle EZFKA class due to just not being too threatening or coming across as too intellectual (eg. Rudd). But I think that all started to change after the bushfires and that Hawaii holiday, and that rolled into the start of the pandemic which smashed his approval rating. Normally a crisis allows leaders to shine, but just like how Bush Jr flubbed the Hurricane Katrina response, Morrison was found lacking on both occasions.
We all know that politicians will always cop a hiding from the other side, especially the more extreme end. But what always surprised me with Morrison was where some of the most vocal voices against him came from. At a function last year our hospital CEO and owners were openly critical of Morrison. Somehow the Liberals were managing to lose core voters on high incomes with millionaire investment properties and asset portfolios. These guys would never vote for Labor, but there was an alternative and people were talking about Teals and independents.
I don’t think one can claim that normal people don’t have a problem with him, as he was supposedly so unpopular that Liberal MPs didn’t want him campaigning with them in Victoria during the federal election and he was also banned from visiting SA during their state election. That of course came after calling WA “cave people,” backing the Clive Palmer lawsuit against the popular border bans and the state election which saw the Liberals whittled down to 2 seats.
