New research has shown a massive drop in the number of Australians giving sanctimonious, cringey lectures to America over guns and gun laws in the last 18 months.
The study, conducted by the Australian Exceptionalism Institute, showed that the number of Australians making shitty online posts about Americans and gun laws has dropped 800%, as the realities of disarming the citizenry and living in an increasingly totalitarian police state emerges.
“There’s a marked dropped in the number in Australians carrying on like smarmy fuckwits to Americans when it comes to firearms, even to the point of begging for protection. The research clearly shows that the reality of living in China 2.0 has caught up to a lot of them, now they have no means to defend themselves from the increasingly violent actions of Police,” Dr Jack De Santis said.
“The research also demonstrated that the average Australian has no clue about guns or gun laws in both Australia and America, so it really is Dunning-Kruger writ large. I mean seriously, when the first line out of an Australian’s mouth on this topic is from Jim Jefferies it really shows it is a country full of midwits.”
John Howard said he was concerned with the study and will look at ways to increase further fear of firearms, including a ‘potential Port Arthur 2.0.’
Haha spot on.
Not so fucking smarmy about the 2nd amendment when there’s a Police jackboot on your neck for not wearing a mask.
having had experience of a gun violence where guns are readily available, I still prefer no-gun laws. When you see children and youth lying on the kerbside in a pool of blood it kinda shapes this view.
The issue is not if firearms should be (or not) readily available, the issue is how to control the state from resorting to violence in absence of self-protection.
generally the problem arises with thugs that follow a certain type of culture that has been brainwashed into them by music and tv.
It’s an issue of IQ as well. High IQ regions such as East Asia don’t have these problems.
Excluding gun crimes committed by African Americans & Hispanics… sorry Latinex, gun crime in White America is on par with gun crime in Denmark.
That does not fit the narrative though, which is why BLM only cares about a white shooting a black and not any black on black shootings, same with the MSM and democrats
When I said it’s an issue of IQ I wasn’t referring to the white or Asian population in the US.
The correlation with IQ is imperfect – there are more white American with IQ’s below 85 then all the African Americans in the US, smart or dumb.
**Edit: actually it is close to that number, there would be around 27m white Americans with IQ’s below 85 vs the entire African American population being around 32m African Americans… but the point remains.
“I saw a child die so no one should own tools.” Usual yawn argument. Exactly what the article was referring to.
The only thing that stops violence is violence or the threat thereof. History is the study of who has the monopoly on organised force and as much as people want to deny it, that’s the only thing that can rein in totalitarianism other than mass non compliance (which usually results in some form of violence anyway).
Don’t want one don’t buy one. More for me and LWSCHP.
so, uh, LWSCHP has talked up .357 rifles.
someone I know has told me that 357 is great, but “308” is what you really want if some day you want to be able to go hunting (pigs, goats, big deer).
What do you say, A47?
.308 is great. My choice of calibre for deer and it’s a little cheaper because it’s more common. Tikka T3 in .308 is the business.
That being Said, nothing wrong with .357 either. Marlin 30/30 is also worth looking at.
They’re two very different things, despite the similar numbers.
.357 Magnum is a small pistol round. The number refers to the bore diameter in inches. It’s about 9mm.
When fired from a rifle length barrel you get extra velocity (around 1850 feet per second) but the fat stubby projectiles run out of steam pretty quickly. They’re good out to 100m. 150m at most. Quite effective against goats and pigs at those ranges.
A .308 (aka 7.62mm) is a different kettle of fish. It’s a really big, full powered rifle round, and will drive a projectile at velocities around 2800 feet per second. Much more powder required, huge noise, muzzle blast, thumping recoil. Firing a .308 isn’t for the unskilled or faint hearted.
Kinetic energy is proportional to the square of velocity, so that extra 1000 fps means a lot. A 308 round can be used very effectively at ranges out to 800m, and to over 2000m for suppressive firea gainst zombie hordes. You can shoot through brick walls and cars with a .308.
My deer rifle is chambered in 6.5×55 Swede, which is similar to the .308, but slightly less powerful. I could write a couple of pages about why the 6.5mm calibre is the sweet spot for rifle cartridges, but this probably isn’t the right forum for that.
Thanks LSWCHP…. Looks like firearms are one of these topics where there are no simple questions/simple answers.
nobody previously mentioned anything about shooting through walls and cars! Seems like it could even be too much gun…
I might go and pace out 100m and 150m to better picture how far that is.
“The only thing that stops violence is violence or the threat thereof.”
How about, you know, legal or economic coercion? Like in any half civilised country on earth you would actually want to live in?
You righty libertarians are all the same.
well the legal “cooercion” is violence. You do to someone what is considered a punishment by law and see where you end up.
And the economic coercion only works when backed up by the threat of violence to enforce it.
What on earth are you on about?
The legal systems primary means of punishment is either economic or relinquishment of freedoms it has absolutely nothing to do (anymore) with being led into a dark room and beaten over the head. There is absolutely no threat of violence the government here or in many other countries employs in order to achieve a civilized society. Whatever violence, which is really use of force, is required to achieve that goal is a totally different thing.
One country versus another country obviously totally different story but at the individual level I have no idea what you or Agent 47 are on about.
This isn’t the dark ages.
when last was that?
Violence is inherent in human nature, it can be only tamed. W
I am not against guns, contrary I cherish my love for Glock19 and ČZ100 and lament that I can not have them here.
Huh, cannot edit my post. That was Glock17, “the glockenspiel “
I’ve got a pleasing array of 9mm semiautomatic handguns. I used to own a Glock but didn’t like it much so sold it. You can own such firearms in Australia if you wish.
Having grown up where guns are allowed but regulated, most of the death by gun was from illegal weapons, or stoled firearms. The guns are not the issue, the people holding them are.
When I was growing up I often had to carry a friends gun for him when we went drinking as he was aggressive drunk and did not want to have his 9mm to hand in case he shot someone in anger, that is being responsible about your character and gun ownership.
Anecdotally it came to be quite handy one evening when some others decided that we would make good target practice and having a firearm to discourage them from ending us as we put up some resistance, saved us from certain death.
that’s quite the night out!
There were times when it was a bit wild west but there were so many freedoms that I took for granted, like riding in the back of a ute on the freeway, not having to wear a seabelt, no pool fences (I never knew of a single kid that drowned in a backyard pool in 28 years of living there) and many other things that we used to get up to that the “law” just looked the other way as long as we were not harming others or others property.
That makes sense.
I imagine that in places where legal gun ownership is easier/more common, there would also be more illegal guns in circulation (as they’re generally easier to come by/steal through greater supply) and that could drive a bit more gun violence at the margin.
for example kids might get guns and do stupid things with them , or people who might have had a fistfight could have a shootout. opportunistic and random stuff like that.
but in any case, the barcode baddies will have guns anyway.
The baddies always find a way to have guns or knives or machette’s or something that would shorten your life, the best option was to defer them by having equal force. Or like at one of the sets of traffic lights the police setup a machine gun post in order to stop the hijackings, nothing stops a would be hijacker like a .50 cal machine gun.
Stop larping ya shit talking faggit
So let’s say you had guns in Melbourne right now, how do you think that would have gone?
Lol, lockdown would end in an instant
Extremely unlikely per my post below.
I suspect that Melbourne protests would have looked a lot like Dallas and Austin protests.
…you must think of your suggestion not as guns suddenly falling from the sky into the crowd of melbourne tradies. But as something that happened much earlier amd is preexisting:
i suspect that there would have been be a rather different picture that would have emerged
That is for victoria, from a news article so may not be 100% accurate, but:
is already true.
The problem is when the government DOESN’T know where the guns are.
That’s probably 1 gun per 10 people. Realistically probably closer to 1 in 20 or 30 real people, as people typically own more than one firearm (by my informal research). I expect also that they are mostly long arms.
in texas it’s estimated that at least 1 in 2 people own firearms. Many handguns.
i think it’s one of those situations where quantity has its own quality…
add to that the Texas culture and history (based on my research through tv shows 😌) and it’s rather different situation all up.
not jsut in theory, but as we have witnessed.
that said, you are also right in this:
texas apparently has only 700,000 registered firearms 😂😂.
Probably because most firearms don’t need to be registered there. Full automatic and silencers require registration under US federal law, which probably provides that count.
Maybe or maybe not.
The CHAZ was in a state that allows people to openly carry weapons, hence the idiots walking around with rifles weren’t breaking any laws just by doing that, and yet it is sjw blm central with idiotic government.
I think the culture matters far more than the number of guns.
And yet it would make stuff all difference to the lockdowns.
The fact is, despite this place turning into a sea of looney libertarians, the government runs the joint and you’re all just living in it. They have all the power and you don’t.
Something everyone here is quick to grasp on economic issues which DLS never learned his lesson on, but there are a bunch of posters in this thread making the same silly suggestions on non economic issues but fail to see the parallels.
oh yeh. 109% right.
For mine, this is pure hypothetical, alternate-universe type stuff.
it’s not like an armed population, resulting in a different citizen-government dynamic is even a remote possibility in EZFKA.
it’s equivalent to the economic musing along the lines of:
the fact is that there is a whole government machinery working to make sure that none of these things happen.
Indeed Ms Peachy that ship sailed by about WW2 I would have thought, we’ve had it too good since then to be bothered trying that hard
In fairness, most people will parrot whatever nonsense they are told, until it bites them in the rear personally. And sometimes even after.
When this happens, make note of it, for it tells you who to stay away from going forward.
No real point investing in relationships with the stupid and/or unlucky. It’ll either cost you, or you’ll end up taking advantage of them, which is not good for your soul.
It took me a really long time to stop myself from caring/getting involved. No point giving advice because no one will listen anyways, and being a truth teller will cost you because god knows everyone loves shooting the messenger.
Yes. one of the best pieces of guidance I’ve ever received is “you can’t save everyone”.
This.
Unfortunately some of these people walking around now can’t be helped, no matter how obvious the situation is. Some have to learn the hard way. C’est la vie.
As long as I’m alright. That’s the main thing.
I am guessing you took the red one
